We are certainly in the Christmas spirit here in NC. The kids loved helping to decorate the tree, and I've even resisted rehanging their ornaments to make things more aesthetically pleasing. ;)

The kids also get really excited about decorating their own tiny trees they keep in their rooms. They decorate them on the floor, and then we move them up to the dresser. They even have little led lights that we turn on at bedtime. They are super proud of these because they do them on their own.
We've been reading several Christmas stories each night at bedtime. This is Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree, a favorite of Aunts Anna and Lydia, who gave each of the kids their own copy.
The kids have also been busy doing Christmas crafts. They hang them on their tree, give them to their teachers, or bring them to Ms. Marie (a senior in the neighboring nursing home that we try to visit each week).
The elf has also made his appearance and brought the kids matching pajamas the first night. They were really excited and continue to get up (and wake each other up) early each morning to find the elf's new hiding spot and see what small treat (a new book, chocolate, etc.) or note he has with him.
We are really trying hard not to get too busy (i.e. stressed out) this Christmas season. We are enjoying spending as much time together as we can (both relaxing and making memories) and watching the kids' excitement over the tradition and magic of this wonderful time of the year. We've also included the advent candles and a bible based advent countdown book this year in an effort to more diligently point them to Christ, the real reason for the season, in our celebrations throughout this month while paying a little less attention to all the commercialism that the world would bombard us with instead.
