Military Appreciation Picnic

Friday afternoon, the base put on a great family fun picnic for Military Appreciation Day. There was a lot of free food (chickfila, ice cream, cookout food), music, bouncy houses, a petting zoo, planes and fire trucks to see, games to play, and even real horses to ride. We met Phil there after work and had a great time!
(Why oh why is this blog squishing down all of my pictures?!? Sorry. I promise we are really not this short and chubby. Ugh.)

Avery liked seeing Daddy's plane up close but told him that he liked the helicopter next to it better...haha.

Not quite sure what to think about the bouncy house. He did warm up to it after a few minutes.

The petting zoo was funny because all the kids got free food to hand out, but none of the animals were the least bit interested in eating it. haha. They were all chasing the poor things around trying to get them to eat the food. I think Avery even stuck a few pieces up a bunny's nose, thinking it was his mouth. oh dear.

We finally found a donkey that would oblige Avery and eat a little of the food!

Avery totally surprised us and rode on a full size horse by himself! We thought for sure that after waiting in the long line, he'd change his mind when it became his time to go. We were so proud of him for being so brave! The horse's name was Duey, and Avery said "He was very nice. He didn't make any noises." :)

Our little cowboy!

Sissy's favorite part was getting out of the stroller! :) Love this picture of her and Phil.

Avery also loved exploring the firetrucks and ambulances!

So thankful for the base and all the sponsors for putting on such a great family friendly event! We will definitely be back next year!
