You Know the Drill

However, this was no drill! We have now experienced our first round of bad, tornado producing storms here in NC. Of course, it took place while Phil was deployed, but it worked out ok.... I don't know how well he would have fit in the bathroom with us. ;)

The weather forecasters new it was coming, so all the kids were released from school at 11am that day. This meant lunch for Avery happened at 9am...yikes! I missed BSF that morning and instead made a trip to Lowes to buy stakes to anchor down our trampoline and brought in all the patio furniture.  Thankfully, we only had to spend 2 periods of time in the bathroom, less than an hour each time. The kids did really well. We played Uno and read books, and everything was over just in time for bedtime. Whoohoo!

The kids wore their helmets for extra protection. We're from the midwest...we don't play when it comes to tornado safety. ;)

While the trampoline net surprisingly remained intact, we lost 2 big limbs from our pine tree out front. I didn't even hear them fall, but it was a big enough impact to put a big hole in the yard, too. So glad it fell towards the street and not the house! We are thankful for our awesome neighbor, Mr. Dave, who chainsawed the limbs up and piled them by the road for the trash/yard waste people to pick up. We now have extra wood for our fire pit, and the kids got valuable work experience helping to pick up hundreds of pinecones. :)

Hoping this is the last of our excitement before Phil gets home!
