This past Sunday, the whole family went to see the USO tour of Sesame Street Live at NAS Pensacola. Avery was so excited about seeing Elmo! This was a free show, so it was a great time to test if Avery could sit through a program like this without having to pay for and waste a ticket. Upon entering the theater, each kid was given a light-up, spinning elmo toy. Avery was fascinated, and it helped entertain him while we waited for the show to start. They also played kids' songs while we waited, and Avery was excited to recognize a few.
Avery tried to sit in his own seat, but he was too small to keep it from folding back up on him...so he mostly enjoyed just sitting in Phil's lap. I held Claire, who thankfully slept the whole time.
As each character came out onto the stage, the kids went wild. Avery's face lit up with all of them (especially Elmo and Cookie Monster), and he pointed to them all and said their names as he saw them.
Big Bird, sadly, wasn't there...guess he's still mad about the Romney comments. ;)
Too distracted for a family picture...oh well. :)
The show centered around a little girl who's family was having to move again to a new base, and the characters make her feel better about all she could do to keep in touch with her old friends and how to make new ones- very cute and appropriate for military kids. It was only 30min long, which was the perfect amount of time to keep the kids' attention. Avery has held on tight to his new toy ever since and talks about going to see Elmo everyday now. Thank you to the USO for putting on a great show and for all you do for military families!
