My "Handy Manny"

Phil has been super busy around the house lately with projects. Thanks to some fantastic ideas from our friend (and great decorator!), Erica, we have (well, mostly he has) been refinishing furniture, hanging shelves and pictures, and picking out fabric (we girls did this!) for a new valance, accent pillows, and artwork for the living room. He's done such a great job with the furniture that it makes me want to head out to the thrift stores to find other pieces for him to "fix up!" I think he'd kill me though...his "honey-do" list is long enough as it is. : )

Here's a quick look at the furniture he fixed up:

First, was his childhood dresser. Let's just say it had been loved a lot...it even had his name carved into the front of one of the drawers. It started out a light brown, but we like black because it's easier than stain and can hide imperfections. We had originally intended for this to go in Avery's room, but his room is too tiny so it's in the living room providing extra storage for his toys, etc.

Next, was my childhood furniture set, which is now in our guest bedroom. Erica suggested painting all the light wood black and leaving the white alone. Now, instead of looking quite so country, it's more shabby chic...at least we like to think so.

We don't have the valance or pillows made yet, and we're still looking for a piece to go behind our couch. Also, Phil's next big project is making us an entryway table, putting to use his new table saw my parents got him for his birthday...so, "made over" living room pictures still to come!
