Halloween Night!

The kids were super excited on Halloween!! It was a little frustrating that it fell on a Monday night, however. Thankfully, Avery wasn't given any homework, and we were able to eat a quick dinner before changing into our costumes and heading out to meet our friends.

It worked out perfectly that many of our neighborhood buddies ended up congregating in front of our house, and we could caravan around the Maplewood mile together.  It was quite a little parade. Practically all of the hubbies were working. so us moms were able to help each other and look out for one another's kids. Avery had complained that Phil was missing "the best day of the year," but he was pretty distracted by all the friends and fun.

 What cuties!

Thankfully, we got 3/4 the way around the loop before it got really dark. The girls were so cute, all taking turns holding hands. I had warned my kids that they had to stay together and close to me, since Phil wasn't there to take a kid. They did a great job overall, but Maplewood does make me nervous as there's a lot of car traffic and crowds of trick-or-treaters.

There were a lot of houses that didn't participate, but the kids got more than enough candy, and we made it all the way around the loop in a little over an hour. We would have been faster, but I had to keep stopping to open up candy wrappers for them. ;)  Back at our house, the kids helped to hand out our Halloween pretzels and picked out the few pieces of candy they wanted to keep. The rest they traded in for their "switch witch" gift- a 5 minute story book collection for each of them and a small gift left behind from Phil (Little Pony for Claire and Star Wars lego for Avery). We finally got baths and bedtime, and the kids both agreed it was a great night. Claire even cried that it was over.  Until next year, Halloween!
