We discovered Cabin lake only about 30 min from us a few months ago, and Phil and I were excited to take the paddle board there with the kids. However, when Phil went to load the paddle board, he realized that the racks for the van had been broken in the move. boo. We still decided to go check it out, though, one hot Sunday afternoon.
The drive was beautiful actually...mostly farms. We paid several dollars a piece to get in and then rented a pedal boat for an hour. Mom has one of these at home in Indiana, but we've yet to try it out with the kids.
The kids were disappointed they didn't get to chose the color of the boat and that they were too short to help pedal. Phil and I were disappointed that we were supposed to wear these big dirty hot life vests...safety first! (Although we ditched them about 20 min into pedaling...the vests, not the kids. hehe.)
We had fun out on the water, though. It was hot hot hot, and the kids and I kept sticking our feet in the water to cool off. Avery and Claire kept a look out for fish.
At about 35 minutes into our hour of rental time, we'd all basically had enough (as evidenced by the picture below). It was a good workout for sure but not a very efficient way of getting from point A to point B. There were fisherman on shore walking quicker than we were moving. In Phil's words, the juice wasn't worth the squeeze. Still, it was something new to try.
After baking pedaling in the lake, the kids had fun swimming in the swimming area with new friends. There was a man made beach with a lot of sand, so it wasn't too nasty walking into the water. Phil and I took much longer than the kids to inch our way in, but once we did we had fun laughing and splashing with the kids, too.
We will be back, although hopefully with the paddle board next time!
