Avery's 6!

It's hard to believe that our Avery-bear is already 6! He had a birthday that lasted for weeks, which was just fine with him. He turned 6 on May 23rd, and we celebrated with presents before school. He got to be class leader that day, and I brought in juice and chocolate chip cookies, his request, for the class's snack. He got to be picked up early that day because little sister had a dance recital rehearsal, but we managed to grab frozen yogurt and Chicfila for dinner, so he was a happy camper.

He was all about sharks, Ninja Turtles, and legos this year! 

"Wow! Thanks, Mom and Dad!!"

Two weeks later, on the last day of school, we had Avery's shark-themed birthday party. We rented out the neighborhood pool and had invited the whole class, so we really had no idea how many people to expect. Thankfully, it wasn't too crazy, and the kids had a lot of fun.

Shark decor wasn't easy to find, but oriental trading company and pinterest came through for us, and everything looked pretty festive. I forgot to get a picture of the cake, but it wasn't too impressive. I had walmart do their underwater themed cake (the coral looked like leaves...ugh) and added sharks I'd ordered on amazon. Avery seemed to like it though, and it tasted good, so that's all that matters!

The water was just a little chilly, but the weather was perfect! It had done nothing but rain for several days beforehand, so we were pretty nervous leading up to the big day.

Friends munched on pizza, apple sauce, and eventually cake after we were able to convince them to leave the pool to eat.

No birthday party is complete without a hat! Poor guy insisted that he get all of the cake with "Avery" on it (a pretty massive piece), and then he tripped and dumped it all over himself. After a quick rinse in the pool shower to get off a bit of the blue icing, some comforting and consoling to turn off the waterworks/temper tantrum, and another huge piece (which he mostly wasted but whatever), he was good to go.

The party ended just before 9, so way past bedtime, but he kept his eyes open long enough to open presents after bath. His sweet party friends and many out of town family and friends were so generous. He was very excited about all of his gifts...not so excited about all the thank-you notes. He did a great job writing each one out by hand, however, and I was super proud of him.

Praying this next year is even better than the last! Yay for 6!
