See You Later

The kids and I said "See you later" to Phil last week as he headed off on a "work trip," as the kids call it. We were able to get Avery from school early and hit up our favorite local bakery for a treat to take to the park before dropping him off. Claire had been insisting on doughnuts with sprinkles, and luckily, they had a few of these heart sprinkle ones left. She and Phil both decided on those. Avery was super disappointed that they didn't have one with chocolate icing, his favorite, so we ended up driving through the Krispy Kreme for one after leaving the first bakery. Shh... we tried to "shop local!"

The big park on base was closed for renovations, but thankfully we found a cute little one (and new to us) tucked inside base housing and played there instead.

How grown up does she look here??

When we took Phil to the squadron, a few of the younger guys were outside to help unload bags and get them to the plane. Avery asked Phil if these were his "servants." Oh dear.  Thankfully, they were out of earshot. Both kids bawled like crazy saying goodbye, and I didn't do much better, hiding under my sunglasses. It's not for too long, but since Phil's only been home from OK for a few months, the kids took it especially hard. They're doing better now, thanks to playing with friends, staying busy, and the beautiful weather we've been having here in NC. We are counting down the days until he returns!
