The day that Phil left for Altus, OK, the kids and I headed up to see Shelley and Dan for the weekend at their new place in VA. It was nice to see their apartment and get a taste of "city living." Although it was so fun to visit and seems great for them and the newly married lifestyle, I can see living downtown being pretty hard with kids. Mine loved racing up and down the halls of their nice apartment building, for instance. ;)
While Shelley was working, Dan took us to a great park called Mount Trashmore, which was built on top of an old landfill. It was actually very nice, not smelly (hehe), and the kids loved it. They wore Uncle Dan out with games of hide and seek and tag.
They slept like a rock that night...
The next morning was cartoons with Uncle Dan and Aunt Shelley...
followed by a walk to see the battleship.
There were fish, turtles, jelly fish, and crabs by the docks to look at.
Shelley and Claire posed with a "sailor," and then it was on to the Japanese garden and koi pond.
The kids loved seeing all the big fish!
Claire picked out her shoes herself...don't judge! ;)
After all that walking, Aunt Shelley needed a nap. :)
Dan and Avery then went to see the minion movie, and the girls went to TJ Maxx and Target for some shopping before settling in for the evening.
We had a great weekend in Norfolk. It's so nice to have Shelley and Dan so close by (less than 3 hours!), and the kids and I were happy to have such a great distraction from thinking about Phil leaving. We hope to go back to visit again soon! Thank you, Shelley and Dan!!
