Big Easy Birthday

For my birthday this year, Phil surprised me with a quick weekend trip to New Orleans! It's only about 3 hours from Pensacola, and it has been on our bucket list since we got into town. This was the first time that we've left the kids, but they did a great job for Ms. Brittany during our two nights away!
Getting serenaded in Jackson Square for my birthday... not too shabby!

I loved all the unique architecture in New Orleans! It was like stepping into a different country. We walked and walked all over the city, and it was so nice to not have to rely on the car to get around.

Phil in Jackson Square in front of St. Louis Cathedral...

Street performers were fun and entertaining!

Beignets at Cafe Du Monde! A must!

We walked down Bourbon Street for a few blocks and had seen enough to mark it off the list. It was dirty and pretty gross on a Friday afternoon, so I can't imagine the craziness during Mardi Gras!

We saw a few great bands and stayed out past our usual bedtime! We made it into Vaso early and snagged a great seat. It was standing room only by the time we left.

We checked Mother's off the list by paying a ridiculous amount of money for two po-boys...but they were pretty yummy!

The Ruby Slipper was awesome for breakfast! It was so nice to be able to enjoy leisurely meals out without hurrying because of the kids.

Hang in there, Joan! ;)

Super heros and street musicians...Avery would have loved bumping into these guys!

Don't try this at home...

Louis Armstrong park

Loved Oyster Rockefeller from Royal House! We definitely ate our way around the city!

Phil met a new friend ;)

Last breakfast in town at Cafe on the Square...our first taste of chicken and waffles!

Our hotel in the distance- Le Meridien. It was very nice.

Beautiful cemeteries

More crazy street performers jumping over the crowd...

My hubby is the best for surprising me, and I loved our weekend away! We will have to do this more often, for sure!
