Last weekend was the annual fall festival at Olive (our church), and we had a great time! This was the first year that Phil has been able to go, and our neighbors, Pete, Natalie, and Lorelai came, too.
Avery and Lorelai loved playing the games to earn candy, but Claire just wanted Phil to carry her, and then she'd get down and get a piece of candy too when they got theirs. She's no dummy. ;)
Phil and the kids on the "train"
The petting zoo is always a hit! Avery liked the ducks the best, and I think the donkey was Claire's favorite. She has even started calling everyone a "donkeydonkey," which I can't decide if it's a compliment or an insult...probably the later.
We waited in a super long line for a clown to make the kids balloon animals. Avery even made the sermon the next day by asking Pastor Traylor if he was the balloon man when Phil introduced the two of them. Although he was still polite, Avery was very disappointed when he found out that he was just the pastor.
Claire surprised us by really wanting to do the bouncy house/obstacle course that was primarily for the bigger kids. There were a lot of adult chaperones, so we let her go in, and she did a great job. She's pretty fearless!
For Halloween, we had a Captain America and a little ladybug. They were both as cute as could be. Avery didn't want to wear his mask for very long or carry the shield past the first few houses, but at least he let us take a few pictures with the whole outfit.
Claire insisted on carrying around her plastic kitchen knife in the beginning (she was using it as a phone to call her Mimi), and we joked that she was a killer ladybug. ;)
Lorelai (a cute minion) went door-to-door with them.
It was actually pretty fall like and chilly outside which was a nice change! Bring out the jackets!
Claire wanted to eat each piece of candy as soon as she got it and soon fell behind. Her favorite candies were the lollipops, which she calls "peepoppies."
Avery's favorite was a ring pop he got from Liz!
They get along every now and then. ;) He was protecting her.
We went up and down our little street and then over to North Harbor for a loop around the block. We set out a bowl of candy while we were gone, and we didn't run out of candy by any means, but I think we had quite a few more trick or treaters than last year.
The whole gang! (Ava, Lorelai, Jackson, Avery, and Claire)
Phil and I even got the opportunity to dress up for a squadron party. Eggs and bacon, anyone??
Happy Halloween and yay for fall!
