There's nothing like bringing home a newborn and having to prepare for a hurricane in the same weekend! At least we'll have some good stories to tell Claire when she gets older. The first thing Phil did, with my Dad's help, was put the covers on the windows and the doors. These were all still in their original packaging from the builders, but thankfully, they weren't too hard to figure out, and the guys had them up pretty quickly. Unfortunately, they blocked out most the light, so it was a little like living in a cave for a few days. Phil and my parents also made a walmart run to stock up on water, some canned goods, and a lantern.
Now, we just had to wait on the storm...
Thankfully, the worst we got out of the storm was an hour long tornado warning, for which we all piled into the only "fully interior" space we have... the play room closet.
Claire was not at all bothered by the arrangement and slept the whole time. (Excuse my still in pajamas, no make-up, lucky to have simply brushed my teeth that day state of disrepair.)
Avery, on the other hand, had to be bribed with a new-to-him toy that was supposed to be for Christmas in order to get him to sit and stay in the closet. Oh well...whatever works, right?
We were very fortunate to not have had any damage or loss of power (all my frozen meals!!) during the storm. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those that got the brunt of Isaac. Hoping that we don't have to do this again any time soon!
