This past week, we headed up to Pensacola for Phil to do his altitude chamber refresher and to explore our soon-to-be new home. We loved Pensacola Naval Air Station...right on the water, beautiful historic buildings, 2 Starbucks. However, Phil will be stationed at Whiting, which is about 45 min northeast and MUCH smaller. Phil says that Columbus AFB looks big in comparison. :/ We initially were pretty disappointed. Tampa has us spoiled, and we weren't able to find neighborhoods like ours near our new base...ones with sidewalks, a playground, and a swimming pool. However, we met up with a great realtor who drove us all around and helped us to find some pretty nice areas and pointed out some Pensacola hot spots.
Downtown Pensacola was really neat- lots of cute shops and restaurants. There are also a lot of historic homes near the downtown area that range from small cottages to huge mansions. Unfortunately, it's too much of a commute for Phil for us to live downtown. We are looking at living in Pace, a suburb half-way between Whiting and downtown Pensacola. Now we just need a fantastic rental home to open up in the subdivisions that we like at the time we need it to...sigh.
